Source: ÖSYM's International Foreign Language Exam Equivalencies document. Equivalence is one-directional, from the international exam to KPDS/ÜDS/YDS/e-YDS. For TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic a score between two rows takes the lower row. Results count for five years from the exam date unless the certificate states otherwise. Document date: 11.03.2025
How ÖSYM equivalency works
Turkish universities, YÖK and public institutions that ask for a YDS score accept a set of international exams instead, at the equivalences fixed by ÖSYM's International Foreign Language Exam Equivalencies document. The document lists, for each accepted exam, which result corresponds to which YDS score. For English the accepted exams are TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C2 Proficiency, C1 Advanced and Linguaskill General, and the Oxford Test of English; German has TestDaF, DSD II, telc Deutsch and Goethe-Zertifikat; French DELF and DALF; Italian CELI; Spanish DELE; Russian TORFL. This tool reproduces the tables of the current document.
Steps
- 1 Choose the exam you took.
- 2 Enter your score, or pick your grade or level for exams reported by band.
- 3 Read the YDS equivalent and the table row it comes from; the full table for the exam opens below.
Scores between rows
TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic are listed in steps. A result that falls between two rows is treated as the lower row: TOEFL iBT 100 lies between 96 and 102, so it counts as 80, not 85. The minimum listed results, TOEFL 48 and PTE 30, map to 40; anything below has no equivalence. Linguaskill and the Oxford tests are listed as ranges, so every score inside a range has one value.
Exams reported by grade or level
Cambridge C2 Proficiency grades A, B and C are 100, 90 and 80; C1 Advanced grades are 80, 70 and 60. TestDaF TDN 5, 4 and 3 are 85, 80 and 75. telc and Goethe certificates combine the level with the grade, from C2 Sehr gut at 100 down to B2 Ausreichend at 45. DALF C2, CELI 5 and DELE C2 are 100; C1 certificates are 80 and B2 certificates 60.
Validity and what institutions require
An equivalent result can be used for five years from the exam date unless the certificate itself carries a shorter validity. ÖSYM only recognises sittings held in the exam provider's official language and, in Turkey, in state university buildings. Each institution decides which YDS level it requires, commonly 55 or 65 for graduate admission and 70 or more for academic posts and doctoral programmes.
Limits of this converter
ÖSYM updates the document occasionally and applies the version valid on the exam date; this page follows the document dated above. Institutions may add their own rules, such as minimum sub-scores. The document on ÖSYM's website is the authority.
