PNG to WebP Converter - Smaller Graphics, Same Transparency

This is the one conversion where you rarely give anything up. WebP keeps the alpha channel that made you choose PNG in the first place, and still produces a much smaller file. For logos, icons, UI screenshots and product cut-outs on a website, it is usually the straightforward upgrade.

How to convert PNG to WebP

1. 1 Add your .png file — a logo, icon, screenshot or anything with a transparent background.
2. 2 Keep the quality high — 90 or above preserves crisp edges in logos and text.
3. 3 Convert and download. Check the saving shown next to the file name — it is often dramatic.

Why the saving is so large

PNG compression dates from the 1990s and stores every pixel exactly. WebP uses modern techniques and can also compress with a small, controlled loss while still keeping transparency — something PNG cannot do at all. For flat graphics with large areas of one colour, files half the size are common; for detailed screenshots, savings of 60–80% are not unusual.

Transparency survives intact

This is the difference between converting to WebP and converting to JPG. A logo with a see-through background stays see-through, so it can sit on any colour without a white box around it. That is why there is no background-colour picker on this page — nothing needs to be flattened.

Where PNG is still the safer choice

Anywhere outside a browser. Print shops, older versions of Office and Photoshop, e-mail attachments, some CMS uploaders and most operating-system preview tools still handle PNG more reliably. Convert to WebP for your own website; hand over the PNG when someone else has to open the file.
