GMAT Focus Score Calculator - Total Score and Percentiles from Section Scores
Estimate your GMAT Focus total
Estimate. GMAC derives the total from the three sections with its own method; this tool weights them equally on a linear scale from 205 to 805, which matches published results within about 10 points. Percentiles follow recent GMAC tables.

How the GMAT Focus Edition is scored
The GMAT Focus Edition has three sections of equal weight: Quantitative Reasoning with 21 questions, Verbal Reasoning with 23 and Data Insights with 20. Each is scored from 60 to 90 in one-point steps, and the total runs from 205 to 805 in ten-point steps ending in 5. The test is question-adaptive, so no raw-answer conversion exists; what you can compute is the total from the section scores and where each lands against other test takers.
Steps
- 1 Enter your three section scores from an official score report or a GMAC practice exam.
- 2 Read the estimated total and the percentile of each section and of the total.
- 3 Change one section to see how much the total moves; each section counts equally.
From sections to total
The three sections contribute equally. Thirty points of raw range across the three sections map onto the 600-point total range, so each section point is worth roughly 6.7 total points, rounded to the nearest ten. 80, 82 and 78 give about 605; 85 in every section gives about 705.
Reading percentiles
Section percentiles differ: 85 in Quantitative is around the 89th percentile, 85 in Verbal the 95th and 85 in Data Insights the 96th, because many test takers score very high in Quantitative. A total of 645 is around the 89th percentile and 705 the 98th. Business schools quote the total; a 655 or more is competitive at most top programmes.
Focus Edition versus the old GMAT
The 200 to 800 scale of the classic GMAT is not directly comparable to the 205 to 805 Focus scale. Roughly, a Focus 645 corresponds to an old 700 and a Focus 695 to about 750, because the Focus distribution is shifted lower. Use GMAC's concordance tables for exact comparisons.
Limits of this estimate
GMAC does not publish the exact formula from section scores to total, and the mapping is not strictly linear at the extremes. The estimate here is usually within one ten-point step of the official total. Percentiles are updated yearly by GMAC and the values here are from recent tables.
