Markdown Editor with Live Preview - Export HTML
Markdown editor and preview
Raw HTML in the source is shown as text in the preview, and links using javascript: or data: are disabled.
How to write Markdown
Markdown is plain text with a few punctuation conventions: a hash for a heading, asterisks for emphasis, a dash for a list item. It is what READMEs, wikis, issue trackers and most note apps understand. This editor renders your text as you type, so you can see the structure take shape, and exports clean HTML when you are done.
Steps
- 1 Type or paste Markdown in the left box. The preview on the right updates with every keystroke.
- 2 Use the sample as a cheat sheet: headings, bold and italic, lists, a code block, a table, a quote and a link are all in it.
- 3 Copy the HTML for a CMS or template, or download the document as a .md or a standalone .html file.
The syntax in one minute
Headings: # Title, ## Section, ### Subsection. Emphasis: **bold**, *italic*, ~~strikethrough~~. Lists: start lines with - or 1.; indent two spaces to nest. Links: [text](https://example.com); images: . Inline code goes in `backticks`; a code block is fenced by three backticks, optionally followed by a language name. A line of --- draws a rule, and a line starting with a right angle bracket is a quote.
Tables
A table is a header row, a separator row and data rows, with cells divided by pipes: | Name | Price |. The separator row uses dashes, and a colon on either end sets the alignment — :--- left, :---: centre, ---: right. Columns do not have to line up in the source; the renderer handles the spacing.
What the HTML export contains
Copy HTML gives you just the body markup — paragraphs, headings, lists and tables — ready to paste into a page that has its own styles. Download .html wraps that markup in a complete document with a title taken from your first heading and a small stylesheet, so the file opens readably in any browser.
Why raw HTML is not rendered
Standard Markdown passes HTML through untouched, which is convenient but turns any pasted document into a way to run scripts in the page. This preview escapes it instead: a div or script tag in the source appears as text. Links using the javascript: or data: schemes are disabled for the same reason. Your exported file is likewise free of injected code.
