Term score of one course (exams, performance, project)
Term score: 87.5
From the MEB Regulation on Secondary Education Institutions: a course's term score is the arithmetic mean of its exam, performance and, if any, project scores (article 51); a course's weight is its weekly hours (article 54); students who pass every course, whose weighted average of term scores is at least 70.00 and whose behaviour score is 100 receive a teşekkür certificate from 70.00 to 84.99 and a takdir certificate from 85.00 (article 160). Division is carried to four decimals.
How takdir and teşekkür certificates are calculated
At the end of each term, Turkish high schools reward students with a teşekkür or takdir certificate based on the weighted average of their term scores. Each course's term score is the arithmetic mean of the scores recorded for it, two written exams, two performance scores and a project where one was assigned. The average across courses is weighted by weekly hours: a six-hour mathematics course counts three times as much as a two-hour course. A student qualifies only if every course is passed with at least 50 and the behaviour score is 100; the weighted average then decides the certificate, teşekkür from 70.00 to 84.99 and takdir from 85.00. Students who earn takdir in every term of at least three school years also receive the üstün başarı certificate.
Steps
- 1 List your courses with their weekly hours and term scores; add or remove rows to match your timetable.
- 2 Enter your behaviour score; it is 100 unless a disciplinary decision lowered it.
- 3 Read the weighted average and the certificate; the helper below computes a single course's term score from its exam and performance scores.
Why weekly hours matter
The regulation defines a course's weight as its weekly hours, so a 70 in six-hour mathematics pulls the average down far more than a 70 in two-hour geography. With the example courses here, ten courses and 29 weekly hours give an average of 80.79 and a teşekkür certificate; raising mathematics from 70 to 85 alone lifts the average to 83.90, and takdir needs 85.00.
The three conditions
A high average is not enough. Every course must be passed, which means a term score of at least 50, because a single failing course removes the certificate regardless of the others. The behaviour score must be exactly 100, so any deduction for a disciplinary measure also removes it. Only when both hold does the average of 70.00 or 85.00 decide between teşekkür and takdir.
Term score of a course
Each course has two written exams per term, three in courses with six or more weekly hours when the local board decides so, and at least two performance scores; a project counts in courses where one was assigned. The term score is the plain arithmetic mean of all these scores, with the division carried to four decimals and no rounding, so 80, 90, 85 and 95 give exactly 87.5.
Limits of this calculator
Vocational schools add workshop and practice scores to the term score, and courses taken as exemptions do not count. School administrations apply the regulation through e-Okul, which is the authoritative record; use this page to check a report card or to see what a target average requires.
