Exam statistics used (mean and standard deviation of raw scores)
Estimate. Korean, mathematics and the inquiry subjects are graded relative to all candidates: standard score = 20 × z + 100 for Korean and mathematics, 10 × z + 50 for inquiry, where z uses the sitting's mean and standard deviation, unknown until results. Percentile comes from the normal distribution and the grade from the cumulative bands 4, 11, 23, 40, 60, 77, 89 and 96 percent. English and Korean history use absolute bands. Parameter year: 2026
How the Suneung is scored
The College Scholastic Ability Test reports three figures for each relative-graded subject: a standard score, a percentile and a grade from 1 to 9. The standard score is a linear transformation of the raw score using the mean and standard deviation of all candidates, with mean 100 and standard deviation 20 for Korean and mathematics, and 50 and 10 for the inquiry subjects. The percentile is the share of candidates at or below your standard score, and grades are cut at the top 4, 11, 23, 40, 60, 77, 89 and 96 percent. English and Korean history are graded on absolute bands of raw score. This tool applies the same chain with typical statistics.
Steps
- 1 Enter your raw scores from a mock exam; leave a subject blank if you did not take it.
- 2 Read the estimated standard score, percentile and grade per subject; English and Korean history show the absolute grade.
- 3 If the mean and standard deviation of the sitting are known, enter them in the statistics panel for a closer estimate.
Standard scores
A raw score two standard deviations above the mean becomes 140 in Korean or mathematics and 70 in an inquiry subject. Because the mean and spread change every year, a full mark in an easy sitting yields a lower standard score than in a hard one, which is why the maximum standard score, around 130 to 150 for Korean and mathematics, is watched as a measure of difficulty.
Percentiles and grades
Grade 1 is the top 4 percent, grade 2 the next 7 up to 11 percent, grade 3 up to 23 percent, and so on to grade 9. The percentile shown is the share of candidates at or below you; a percentile of 96 therefore sits exactly at the grade 1 cut. Universities use different combinations: some admit on standard scores, others on percentiles or grades.
Absolute grading
English is graded in bands of ten raw points: 90 and above is grade 1, 80 to 89 grade 2, down to grade 9 below 20. Korean history uses five-point bands from 40 for grade 1. These grades do not depend on other candidates and are known as soon as the raw score is.
Limits of this estimate
The mean and standard deviation are typical values; the real ones are published with the results, and the distribution is not perfectly normal, so estimates near grade cuts can be off by a grade. Use the tool to interpret mock exams; the official report is the only authoritative result.
