Grading scale of the Bangladesh education boards: 80 and above A+ (5), 70 to 79 A (4), 60 to 69 A− (3.5), 50 to 59 B (3), 40 to 49 C (2), 33 to 39 D (1), below 33 F (0). GPA = total grade points of compulsory subjects, plus the fourth subject's points above 2, divided by the number of compulsory subjects, maximum 5. Marks in combined papers are summed before grading.

How SSC and HSC GPA is calculated
The education boards of Bangladesh grade each subject on a letter scale with a grade point: 80 marks and above earn A+ and 5 points, down to D and 1 point at 33, while below 33 is F. The GPA is the average of the grade points of the compulsory subjects. The optional fourth subject is treated differently: only the grade points above 2 are added to the total, and the divisor does not change, so a strong fourth subject can lift the GPA but a weak one never lowers it. An F in any compulsory subject means the candidate has not passed and the GPA is 0.
Steps
- 1 Enter the marks of each subject, summing the papers of combined subjects first.
- 2 Tick the fourth subject so that only its points above 2 are counted.
- 3 Read the letter grades, the points counted and the GPA out of 5.
The fourth subject rule
If the fourth subject earns A+ with 5 points, 3 points are added to the total; with B and 3 points, 1 point is added; with C or less, nothing. Because the divisor stays the number of compulsory subjects, a GPA can reach 5 with a slightly lower compulsory average when the fourth subject is strong, which is the intended benefit.
A GPA of 5 and golden GPA
A GPA of 5 requires that the sum, including the fourth-subject bonus, reaches five times the number of compulsory subjects. A golden GPA 5, the term used when every subject including the fourth earns A+, is the strictest reading and is what many colleges look for when places are scarce.
Combined subjects and practicals
Subjects with two papers, such as Bangla and English, are graded on the total of both papers, and science subjects include the practical marks. Enter the combined total for such subjects; the board applies the same grading scale to the sum.
Limits of this calculator
The scale and the fourth subject rule are common to the general boards and the Madrasa and Technical boards for the current system; older results used different scales. The board's transcript is the authoritative result.
