Estimate. ÖSYM converts each test's net (correct minus a quarter of wrong) into a standard score, weights the four tests per score type (SAY 25/35/30/10, EA 35/35/10/20, SÖZ 35/20/10/35, GN 33/33/17/17 for Turkish, mathematics, science and social sciences) and rescales within each type to 100 to 500. Because the distribution is unknown before results, this tool uses the common approximation in which full nets give 500 and zero nets 100. Parameter year: 2026
How the MSÜ exam is scored
The Military Student Candidate Selection Exam of the National Defence University has 120 multiple-choice questions at high-school level: 40 Turkish, 20 social sciences, 40 basic mathematics and 20 science, answered in 165 minutes. Scoring follows the ÖSYM chain: the net of each test is correct answers minus a quarter of the wrong ones, each net becomes a standard score with mean 50 and standard deviation 10, the four standard scores are weighted according to the score type, and the weighted scores are converted within each type to a scale from 100 to 500. Four score types are reported: numerical, equal weight, verbal and general. A weighted score is only calculated for candidates with at least half a net in Turkish or basic mathematics.
Steps
- 1 Enter your correct and wrong answers for each of the four tests; nets update as you type.
- 2 Read the four score types and compare them with the published lowest scores of the schools you are aiming for.
- 3 Try different distributions of effort: the weights show which test moves which score most.
The four score types
The numerical score weights mathematics at 35 and science at 30 percent, the verbal score weights Turkish and social sciences at 35 each, the equal-weight score puts 35 on both Turkish and mathematics, and the general score uses the Basic Proficiency Test pattern of 33, 33, 17 and 17. Because each test has a different number of questions, one net is worth most where the weight is high and the question count low: a science net in the numerical score is worth about six points, a Turkish net about two and a half.
The 100 to 500 scale
ÖSYM maps the weighted scores of each type so that the lowest is 100 and the highest 500. The exact mapping depends on all candidates, so this page uses the approximation also common for the TYT: 100 plus 400 times the weighted share of full nets. A candidate with 28, 11, 18 and 9 nets in Turkish, social sciences, mathematics and science lands near 309 numerical, 323 equal weight, 329 verbal and 320 general.
What the score is used for
The MSÜ score qualifies candidates for the next stages of military school admission; the universities also require the candidate to have sat the relevant YKS tests and to pass physical, psychomotor and interview stages, each with its own thresholds. Each school publishes which score type it uses and last year's lowest placed scores, which are the practical target.
Limits of this estimate
The linear 100 to 500 approximation ignores the actual distribution of the sitting, so official scores can differ, more so for very high or very low nets. Use the tool for practice exams and planning; the official ÖSYM result is the only authoritative score.
