JEE Main and NEET Marks Calculator - Score from Correct and Wrong Answers
Calculate your JEE Main or NEET marks
Marking scheme of the NTA: 4 marks for each correct answer, 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer, nothing for unattempted. JEE Main: 75 questions across physics, chemistry and mathematics, 300 marks. NEET: 180 questions across physics, chemistry, botany and zoology, 720 marks. Percentile and rank depend on the session and the other candidates and are published by the NTA.
How JEE Main and NEET are marked
Both exams are conducted by the National Testing Agency with the same scheme: four marks for a correct answer, one mark deducted for a wrong answer, and no change for an unattempted question. JEE Main has 25 questions per subject in physics, chemistry and mathematics, 20 multiple choice and 5 numerical, for 300 marks. NEET has 45 questions in each of physics, chemistry, botany and zoology for 720 marks. Marks are exact; what varies by session is how marks convert to percentile and rank, which the NTA computes by comparing candidates within each shift and normalising across shifts.
Steps
- 1 Choose the exam and enter your correct and wrong answers from the answer key or a mock test.
- 2 Read the marks, how many questions you attempted, your accuracy and how many you left.
- 3 Try a lower number of wrong answers to see what skipping low-confidence questions would have saved.
Negative marking and when to guess
Each wrong answer costs one mark and a correct one earns four, so a blind guess among four options breaks even on average and a guess after eliminating one option is positive. Accuracy, the share of attempted questions answered correctly, is the figure to track: 90 percent accuracy on 60 attempts beats 70 percent on 75.
From marks to percentile
JEE Main results are reported as a percentile within the session, the share of candidates scoring at or below you, normalised across shifts of different difficulty. The same marks can be a different percentile in another session. NEET reports marks and an all-India rank directly, with ties broken by subject marks and fewer wrong answers.
What the marks mean
In JEE Main, around 100 marks have corresponded to roughly the 95th percentile and 200 to above the 99.5th in recent sessions, but the mapping shifts every year. In NEET, qualifying cut-offs for the general category have been around 140 to 160 marks, while admission to government medical colleges has needed well above 600. Use published cut-offs of the latest year as the reference.
Limits of this calculator
It computes marks exactly under the current scheme but does not estimate percentile or rank, because those depend on the candidates in your session. If the NTA changes the number of questions or the marking rules for a year, the official information bulletin prevails.
