ENEM scores are calculated by item response theory and cannot be derived from the number of correct answers; enter the scores from your results. Weights per area and bonuses are set by each course in the SISU offer; the weighted average with bonus is what the system ranks, capped at 1000.
How ENEM scores are used in SISU
The ENEM reports five scores from 0 to 1000: languages, human sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, and the essay. The four objective tests are scored by item response theory, which weighs each question by its difficulty and consistency, so two candidates with the same number of correct answers can have different scores. SISU, the unified selection system, ranks candidates for each course by a weighted average of the five scores using weights the university publishes, and may apply a bonus percentage for affirmative action or regional policies. This tool reproduces that average.
Steps
- 1 Enter the five scores from your ENEM results.
- 2 Set the weights the course gives each area, found in the SISU offer, and the bonus percentage if you are entitled to one.
- 3 Compare the weighted average with the course's last cut-off score and the ranking during the enrolment window.
Simple and weighted averages
The simple average divides the sum of the five scores by five. Most courses weight areas differently: engineering programmes often give mathematics 3 and natural sciences 2, while humanities courses weight languages and human sciences. With weights 1, 1, 2, 3 and 2 and scores 620, 680, 590, 710 and 800, the weighted average is 690.
Bonuses and minimum scores
Some universities add 10 to 20 percent for candidates from public schools, from their state or region, or under other policies, applied to the weighted average and capped at 1000. Many courses also set minimum scores per area or for the essay, and an essay scored zero disqualifies the candidate in most offers.
Cut-off scores
During the SISU window the system shows a partial cut-off score for each course, updated daily from the candidates currently choosing it. The final cut-off is the weighted average of the last admitted candidate. Last year's cut-offs are the best guide, but they move with demand and with the number of places.
