Nota de acceso = 0.6 × bachillerato average + 0.4 × general phase, valid with a general phase of at least 4 and a total of at least 5. Nota de admisión adds the two specific subjects with the highest grade × weight, each needing at least 5, up to 14. Weights of 0.1 or 0.2 are set by each university for each degree.
How the EBAU and PAU scores work
The Spanish university entrance score has two parts. The nota de acceso combines the bachillerato average, weighted 60 percent, with the grade of the general phase of the EBAU or PAU, weighted 40 percent; it is valid if the general phase reaches 4 and the total reaches 5, and it never exceeds 10. The nota de admisión adds, on top of it, the two specific-phase subjects that help most: each subject passed with at least 5 contributes its grade times a weight of 0.1 or 0.2 chosen by the university for the degree, so the maximum is 14. Degrees with limited places rank applicants by the nota de admisión.
Steps
- 1 Enter your bachillerato average and the grade of the general phase to get the nota de acceso.
- 2 Add the specific-phase subjects with their grade and the weight the target degree gives them; the tool picks the two that add most.
- 3 Compare the nota de admisión with last year's cut-off for the degree and university you want.
The nota de acceso
Sixty percent of the score comes from the bachillerato average, so two years of school marks weigh more than the exam. A bachillerato average of 8.5 and a general phase of 7.2 give 7.98. The general phase typically covers Spanish language, history of Spain or philosophy, a foreign language and one core subject of the track; its exact composition is set by each regional government.
The nota de admisión and the weights
Each university publishes a table of weights per degree: subjects most related to the degree weigh 0.2, others 0.1 and some 0. Only the two most favourable products count, and a subject counts only with a grade of 5 or more. A 9 in a subject weighted 0.2 adds 1.8 points, which is why choosing specific subjects by their weight for the intended degree matters.
Cut-off marks
Cut-off marks are not set in advance: they are the nota de admisión of the last admitted applicant in the previous year and change with demand. Medicine and some double degrees have required above 13; most degrees fill below 10. Use the previous year's cut-off as a guide, not a guarantee.
Limits of this calculator
Weights differ by university and degree, and a subject of the general phase can sometimes also be used in the specific phase depending on the region. The tool applies the national formula; the regional rules and the official score certificate are the authority.
